A Mile-Stone
I ran an entire mile today. I honestly can’t remember ever doing that before.
So today this blog is going to take a new direction. Since I was in middle school, I have been overweight and really out of shape. Starting last week I decided I was going to start working out more and eating right. I read a lot of information in a short amount of time, but I decided I would take the basics and learn by doing. I knew how to stay healthy, and I knew how to not kill myself by working out too much or eating too little. I would, and am going to learn the rest on my path.
That all being said, it hasn’t been an easy week. I have been trying to avoid the temptation to eat tons of carbs, but my body really wants them. Most of my dinners were grilled chicken breasts on wheat tortillas with fresh cut veggies. Most of my lunches were chicken or turkey sandwiches. This, while effective at helping me lose weight, has not been wonderful.
For work outs, I have been focusing on running or lifting my two ten pound weights.
So that all being said here is the point of this blog, which will be on the about section from now on. This blog is going to track my daily progress in weight, eating habits, and exercise. Weekly I will be posting pictures of my stomach, chest and arms to give a better physical picture of any progress I am making. Heads up to all of you, at the moment I am by no means an attractive man.
All of these things serve two major purposes. They keep me on track and force me to be accountable to not just memories, but statistics and logs. Also, the entire idea that someone could be reading this or any of my posts gives me the further incentive to make progress.
The second major purpose of this blog is to serve as a means of getting advice. I don’t know that I am doing this right, so if you read anything on here that you think is wrong or backwards, give me advice, please feel free. I willingly take anything and everything you have to say to heart.

Yay for you! I just started working out this week too – we’re twins! I joined a gym in Canton – it’s $10 a month, and open nearly 24/7. Today I had a personal trainer help me, and make sure I do exercises and such correctly.
What I learned today but guess I already knew, was that you should be doing cardio at least 3 times a week – for at least 30 minutes. This can include using a bike, running, eliptical, anything that gets your heart going. When you do cardio (part i didn’t know) you need to find your max heart rate which is 220-age.. so mine would be 197. To get where your heart rate should be at for fat burning you take your max heart rate (I’ll used mine) 197x.65=129
So I need to keep it at 129 to burn fat – but when you do cardio you take your max heart rate so 197x.85 = 168.
That’s what the trainer told me today, they are the formulas on my exercise tracking sheet.
Maybe I should create a blog and keep myself honest through this process too.
Way to go Pat
and yay for trying to live healthier!
